Midnight Ride to Barmouth
Still in the earlier stages of planning, but this event sure to be a favourite for all!! August bank holiday weekend - leave Lichfield at midnight on Saturday, arrive in Barmouth early Sunday morning for a bacon buttie and cup of tea - all of Sunday and Monday to recover! Hi here is a quick summary of my ride to Cornwall, 14th 15th and 16th of July. I finished work at 17.30 quick ride home (only 1.5 miles) changed into my H4H riding gear grabbed some cash and a Credit card and set off at 18.30. My idea was to cycle from Lichfield to the Fosse Way just south of Leamington Spa and find a Pub to stop at,it was a lovely evening but took me till 22.00 to reach the first village Shipton on Stour 55 miles in total. This was the first experience of riding along the Fosse it was quite hilly certainly a bit of a challenge. I set off on Friday at 08.30 and headed back to the Fosse way turning south, Morton in Marsh ,Stow on the Wold Bourton on the Water all passed by then came Fossebridge if you haven't been there imagine a road descending off Helvellyn only to immediately climb up Scafell Pike the first of many occasions I had to resort to pushing my faithful bike . Still I consoled myself the Cotswolds can't last forever ,soon I arrived in Cirencester no problems scooted though and set off for Malmesbury arriving at 11.30.Wishing to follow the Fosse way as much as possible I turned off right onto The Street to Grittleton to rejoin the original Roman Road (stupid idea was as rough as a dog narrow and continued to climb every hill possible)hear I met a couple of Army lads riding to Bath who insisted on giving me an escort all the way Thanks ! Reached 42 MPH going into Bath but the one thing you learn about going down a hill is there is an even steeper one to Got Lost don't now how but I did ended up in Honiton so took the A30 to Exeter made goodPleased to have finished, hope to have raised £1,000 for H4H and plan to do it again next year but not riding the Fosse its for fitter cyclists !
